You may be aware of a diet known as the Amazing Peanut Butter Diet if you are among the millions of Americans who are overweight, but have you any idea of how this diet originated? If you’ve heard about this diet, you may be pretty skeptical about it’s effectiveness. Isn’t peanut butter high in fat? And if you are only implementing one specific food into your diet, couldn’t that be unhealthy? Before starting ANY diet, these are questions that need to be asked and researched, especially in the case of the Amazing Peanut Butter Diet.
Peanut butter, whether organic, store-brand, or gourmet, has been a favorite food of almost all Americans from the time we were kids and still to this day. So let’s address some of the above questions about the Amazing Peanut Butter Diet.
First of all, the Amazing Peanut Butter Diet was introduced to America via “Prevention” magazine. It’s popularity was so great, the magazine’s publishers created an entire book on the topic, which is available online at Amazon or at your favorite local bookseller off the shelf. “Prevention” has a good reputation, and as a result, the Amazing Peanut Butter Diet has a good reputation, as well.
There is the answer to our first question. Secondly, can you really lose weight on the Amazing Peanut Butter Diet? Well, believe it or not, there are some studies that show that the Amazing Peanut butter Diet did actually help people lose weight.
A control-group study was done in Boston; half the overweight participants were given a low-fat diet. The other half were given about 35% of their total calories as monounsaturated fats – the kind found in peanut butter, olive oil, and the like. Everything else remained the same – i.e., both groups ate the same number of calories.
Women consumed 1200 calories each day. So, what happened? Both groups experienced around the same amount of weight loss, but the positive result, especially for those who love peanut butter and those who grow peanuts, those participants who ate the delicious creamy peanut butter stayed with their diets better than the other participants. Although this seems like quite good news at first glance, it is probably important to realize that 1200 calories is hardly any calories. Any female eating just 1200 calories each day will no doubt lose weight.
I guess if you absolutely love peanut butter, this would be a great plan for you, as you get to eat a limited amount of it every day. If this rich, creamy treat isn’t that high up on your list of preferred foods, however, it’s best advised to find some other means of losing weight.
