Wheat grass, as the name suggests, is a grass which belongs to the family of grasses such as barley and rye which we are more familiar with. It also refers to grass that is grown indoors in trays for around ten days from which their juice is squeezed and consumed fresh. Grass that is dried and dehydrated for around sixty days is used to manufacture supplements. The juice made from fresh wheat grass is frequently mixed with sprouted wheat berries to make a drink rich in chlorophyll. This drink is believed to assist in the prevention of cancer but is known to neutralize many of the toxins in the body, cleanse the body and lower the rate of aging. Many people are aware of the benefits of the juices after seeing those TV adverts for the Jack Lalanne juicers which extol the virtue of fresh juices.
Wheat grass can benefit a number of serious diseases as has been demonstrated by a number of medical professionals. The herbal form is frequently used as medicine and is believed to possess healing powers similar to those of the aloe vera plant. It is interesting to note that cats and dogs when ill or sick will frequently be found nibbling on grass. All the rotten food that sits in the gastrointestinal tract, producing toxins, can be neutralized by this foodstuff. Wheat grass contains lots of enzymes which have the power to detoxify and neutralize most of the toxins and additives in the diet.
Chlorophyll is often known as the life blood of the green plants. Cooking can kill most of the chlorophyll and enzymes in the grass and, therefore, this is advised against. An interesting point is that many grass eating animals rarely get cancer, which could be due to them consuming chlorophyll in the fresh form. It is, however, worth pointing out that it is the enzymes in the grass that detoxifies the body and not the chlorophyll.
A lot of people who have purchased a Jack Lalanne Juicer understand all too well the benefits of juicing. The nutritious properties of any fruit juice will be enhanced by the addition of wheat grass. Such a drink would be jam packed with valuable enzymes and essential vitamins.
For many years most of the vegetable juices have been known to have a cleansing effect on our body. Due to these cleansing properties many doctors advise drinking them when feeling unwell. A surprising but little known fact is that weight for weight, wheat grass contains more amounts of protein than fish, eggs and beans and more iron than spinach.
More and more people are discovering its health benefits and wheat grass could should be considered one of the superfoods. Try adding wheat grass to your daily diet and experience the benefits it has to offer.
