Heartburn and acid reflux are sometimes a problem but I think myself lucky because for me it is a rare and short term problem. The condition we know as heartburn can feel disturbingly uncomfortable and it makes people wonder why they are experiencing and they may suffer frequent occurrences.

The times when I experience the symptoms heartburn gives us I find it can disappear again
almost without being noticed as it is just no longer there. Not everyone is so fortunate and many people find the symptoms of heartburn are a regularly occurring feeling of discomfort and a burning sensation in the throat and chest that it becomes a normal event and they learn how to deal with it.

It is said that the cause of heartburn experienced by so many people is usually brought about by the defective operation of a valve in the back of the throat known as a sphincter valve. The purpose of this sphincter valve is to close up after eating which then prevents and of the stomach gases rising and causing damage the lining of your throat but if it fails to operate correctly and the result is heartburn caused by these acidic gases rising to attack the surface of the throat tissue. Once we understand how this occurs it explains what we experience when suffering from the symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux.

If the valve somehow managed to remain open over a considerable period of time then the lining protecting the tissues of the throat could become damaged but suffering a temporary occurrence of heartburn in most cases will not result in any significant problems. It is very important that any medical condition is properly investigate so seek a diagnosis from a trained medical practitioner to be sure that your health is ok and there is no need for treatment.

Some of the things we can do which may help relieve the symptoms of heartburn and cut down how often attacks may develop. Occurrences of heartburn and acid reflux seem to happen to me most often when I am already tired and I therefore assume that a good sleep pattern is beneficial.

We do hear of certain foods which can increase incidences when heartburn is more likely to occur and it may be that reduction of coffee can help as may reducing how much spicy food you eat. Smoking may also be a factor and I expect this is due to the smoke having an effect on the throat lining and adding to the problems.

So often we hear about health problems that can be reduced through a healthy diet combined with some exercise and ensuring you sleep properly can all help. Managing your eating exercise and sleeping patterns may lower the likelihood and frequency of experiencing heartburn and the acid reflux symptoms.
